Overall, I am extremely impressed with this group of talent. There are several exceptional performers in the group. However, is there star quality in any of them? I’d like to hear your input.
I still get nervous every time I hear the American Idol them song. I have nothing but respect for any of these contestants. It takes a lot to stand on that stage and they all did this former finalist proud.
I did feel bad for a couple contestants. Stevie Wright and Casey Carlson in particular. I have been there and it does not feel good because you know you didn’t do well and you get to have three judges remind you of it in front of millions of people.
The standouts tonight BY FAR were Danny Gokey, Anoop Desai, Ricky Braddy, Alexis Grace - and believe it or not - Tatiana Del Toro.
I have not been a Tatiana fan. However, this past week I was at the American Idol Experience, a new attraction at Disney World. I ran into some of the production team and they told me to watch out for her. They said she was going to surprise some people when she started singing in the live shows. I believe Tatiana may very well become a finalist. I hate to say it, but I think it’s true.
Shoo-in: Danny Gokey.
Disappointments: Michael Sarver and Stephen Fowler. They are both capable of so much more than they gave tonight.
Remember: Only three of the contestants that performed tonight will move on to the finals. This season is turning out to be an incredibly interesting one.
Do you have any predictions?

Phil, I fully agree with everything you said as far as who all stood out. I had a feeling from hearing Tatiana earlier on that she indeed can sing, even though she comes across as annoying. I, too, am disappointed with Michael Sarver and Stephen Fowler. I personally did not even look out for Ricky Braddy, but I thought he did pretty well.
I am personally rooting for Danny, and I can’t wait to see them send him through tomorrow.:-) Btw, Phil, I read on your Twitter that you had come down with the flu,:-( Sorry for sounding like the mom that I am, but please get some rest. I’ll be praying for your quick recovery, too.
I think Danny is awesome and will do very well. I’ve liked Alexis since her audition and hope she moves on. I pretty much agree with what you’ve said about the others. Surprisingly, I thought Tatiana did pretty good. I’m really glad she toned down the emotions along with the incessant laughing tonight. Maybe someone gave her some much needed advice. As for star quality, I think Danny and Alexis have it.Thanks for the blog, Phil. Hope you are pheeling better soon.
Phil, I agree it was an interesting night. The stand out for me was Danny! He did a great job and has a touching story line, so I hope he makes it through. As far as Tatiana, I’m still not impressed. The girls just didn’t bring it as well as the guys tonight. I hope the next group of gals do a better job! Thanks again for you personal insight. It makes the show much more interesting hearing how the contestants are feeling from someone who knows!
i hope america isn’t stupid enough to fall for tatiana. someone probably told her to act like an idiot to get attention & airtime and now they’re telling her to cool it cuz people didn’t like it. hoping we’ll forget what a fake fool she was. i don’t like her no matter how well she sings. i would never buy her cd. danny however i love. and norman is cool; he’s funny & can sing too. we know he’s being silly unlike tatiana who tried to act like she was being real.
I have to believe Anoop will be called back as a wild card. He certainly deserves it most of all those who didn’t make the cut.
